Health Guarantee
At Freedom Ragdolls, every kitten begins life with exceptional care and attention. Our breeding cats are DNA‑tested through Wisdom Panel, FeLV/FIV negative, and our kittens receive vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, and early spay or neuter before they go to their forever homes. We want you to feel confident that your new family member has had the very best start, so we offer a Health Guarantee that is designed to give you peace of mind while also ensuring your kitten continues to thrive. This page is a friendly overview. If there is ever a difference between this summary and your signed Purchase Agreement, the Agreement will control. All health guarantees are valid only while Freedom Ragdolls, LLC remains in business.
Initial 72-Hour Guarantee
Every kitten is guaranteed to be healthy for the first seventy‑two hours after pickup. During this time, it is very important that you keep your kitten separated from other pets and schedule a veterinary exam. This first vet check is part of making sure your new kitten makes a smooth and safe transition into your home.
Three-Year Genetic Health Guarantee
Beyond this initial window, we also provide a three‑year guarantee, beginning from the date of birth, against lethal genetic or congenital defects. If a covered defect ever results in the loss of your kitten or makes euthanasia necessary within this period, we promise to provide you with a replacement kitten of equal quality when one becomes available.
What Is Not Covered
We want to be transparent about what is not covered. Conditions such as FIP, parasites like roundworms or coccidia, and bacterial or viral infections like upper respiratory infections or conjunctivitis are not included in the guarantee. These are issues that can develop after a kitten leaves our care, often due to environmental stress or exposure, and are not related to breeding practices. Likewise, every Ragdoll has its own personality, temperament, and rate of development, so traits like size, coat, or eye color are not guaranteed. These natural variations can take several years to mature, and they are part of what makes each kitten unique.
Your Responsibilities
To keep the Health Guarantee valid, you will need to follow a few simple but important steps. Please schedule a veterinary exam within seventy‑two hours of bringing your kitten home and keep them isolated until this exam is complete. Stay current with your veterinarian’s recommended vaccination schedule, but do not give the FeLV vaccine and never allow the FVRCP and rabies vaccines to be given on the same day. It is also essential that your cat remain an indoor‑only companion, living in a safe and sanitary home. Finally, if you ever have concerns about your kitten’s health, we ask that you contact us right away so that we can help guide you.
-
Why is the FeLV vaccine not permitted?
The FeLV vaccine is not allowed under the guarantee because our kittens are sold as indoor‑only companions, and the FeLV vaccine is not recommended for indoor cats.
-
Why can’t the FVRCP and rabies vaccines be given on the same day?
This requirement is in place to reduce the chance of adverse reactions. Your veterinarian will help you schedule these vaccines safely.
If a Serious Health Issue Arises
If a serious health issue does arise, your first step should be to see your veterinarian immediately. If a defect is found during the initial seventy‑two‑hour exam, request a written report and notify us within twenty‑four hours. In the very rare event that a genetic defect results in death or euthanasia within the first three years, a necropsy performed by a licensed veterinary pathologist will be required to confirm the cause. Once confirmed, we will stand by our promise to provide you with a replacement kitten of equal quality. Transportation and shipping costs in these cases are the buyer’s responsibility.
Our Preventive Standards
Before your kitten goes home, we will have already taken every precaution to ensure they are off to the healthiest start possible. Each kitten receives a veterinary exam, age‑appropriate vaccinations, deworming, a microchip, and early spay or neuter. All of our parent cats are DNA‑tested through Wisdom Panel and verified FeLV/FIV negative.
Guarantee Limitation
Our health guarantees remain valid as long as Freedom Ragdolls, LLC is in business. If our cattery ceases operations, all guarantees are null and void.
TICA Code of Ethics
We adhere to The International Cat Association (TICA) Voluntary Code of Ethics, committing ourselves to the highest standards in breeding and kitten placement. The Code emphasizes:
-
Discriminating Breeding & Loving Homes: We only breed when we can ensure every kitten finds an appropriate, lifelong home. We place kittens only with families capable of giving them the love, care, and commitment they deserve.
-
Health & Veterinary Assurance: Every kitten leaves our care in good health with a Wellness Exam Affidavit. We require new owners to have their kitten examined by a veterinarian within a few days of adoption.
-
Indoor-Only Safety Guidance: We educate buyers on the dangers of outdoor environments and recommend that Ragdolls remain indoors for their protection.
-
Transparency & Agreements: We provide a written sales agreement and abide by its terms.
-
Spay/Neuter Policy & Breeding Rights: We spay or neuter all kittens before they go to their new homes, unless placed with breeding rights to a registered TICA cattery. Registration documents are provided at the time of adoption.
-
Vaccination Requirements: Kittens receive two vaccinations against Panleukopenia, Feline Rhinotracheitis, and Calicivirus before leaving our cattery. We may also choose to vaccinate against Rabies.
Genetic Health Testing
We are renowned for our unwavering dedication to our cats, kittens, and their families. Our cattery maintains the highest standards of health, being FIV, FELV, HCM, and PKD negative. Every breeder in our program is DNA tested through Wisdom Panel and our Veterinarian, ensuring the genetic health, quality, and the absence of hereditary conditions of our beloved Ragdolls.
While genetic testing is an important tool, it isn’t a guarantee. Some Ragdolls may develop HCM even if they don’t carry the known mutation, while others who do carry it may never show signs. In some cases, HCM may not become apparent until later in life.
Early Spay/Neuter (ESN)
We prioritize the long-term health and well-being of our kittens and the peace of mind of their future families. That’s why we support and follow an Early Spay/Neuter (ESN) protocol, with procedures typically performed between 11 and 12 weeks of age, before kittens leave for their new homes.
Why We Use ESN
-
Prevents accidental litters before sexual maturity (which can occur as early as 4–5 months)
-
Eliminates behaviors linked to hormone changes—such as spraying, heat cycles, and roaming
-
Significantly reduces the risk of reproductive cancers later in life
-
Quicker, easier recovery than with adult surgery—young kittens heal faster and experience less surgical stress
-
Streamlines the adoption process—no need to schedule or budget for surgery later
-
Supports responsible pet ownership and helps reduce overpopulation
-
No impact on growth or development when performed by a qualified veterinarian
Our Process
All kittens are evaluated by our licensed veterinarian to ensure they are healthy, thriving, and at an appropriate weight for surgery. Procedures are performed under full anesthesia with careful monitoring, and each kitten is given ample time to rest and recover before going home.
Care Requirements
Ragdolls are generally healthy and can live 12–15 years or more.
-
Size: One of the largest domestic cat breeds; males can reach 15–20+ pounds and females are slightly smaller.
-
Grooming: While their coats are silky and resistant to matting, weekly brushing helps keep them in top condition and reduces shedding.
-
Diet: A high-quality diet supports their size and coat health.
-
Play: They are moderately active—enjoy interactive play but also love lounging.
